2021 Hartford Court Chardonnay Seven’s Bench Vineyard, Carneros
San Francisco Wine Panel 98 Points
Still clearly youthful and impressive in scale, the aromas of this opulent Chardonnay are centered on white peach, golden fig and a hint of guava, all these immersed in a rich bath of baked apple, vanilla cream pie, nutmeg and hazelnut meringue. Appropriate zest and chalky minerality counterpoint the plush fruit that emerges on the palate and carries through a luxurious finish built for richly sauced entrees. Delicious now and notably food worthy, it is likely eighteen months or so from its full expression and would be well worth the wait. 316 6-packs produced.

2022 Model Farm Chardonnay Wildcat Mountain Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
San Francisco Wine Panel 96+ Points
Showing great aromatic spice and intensity of fruit, this beauty really captures the character of its celebrated vineyard. In the nose, scents of fresh apple, apple skin, pear, quince, lemon zest, vanilla cream wafer and slate find a fine harmony, despite the wine’s obvious youth. Things prove every bit as rich in fruit as hoped on the palate, yet the wine stays delightfully vibrant through a delicious, lingering, finish where notes of chalk and slate provide a vivid contrast to the opulent fruit. A great wine for sauced sea food already, it is likely two years from its full brilliance. Less than 200 cases were produced.

2022 Paul Lato Chardonnay “Goldberg Variations”, Hyde Vineyard, Carneros
San Francisco Wine Panel 97+ Points

This is a textbook Lato “Hyde” Chardonnay, which displays luxurious creaminess, lovely oaky spice and plush aromas of sweet apples, peach tart, lemon curd, honey-roasted hazelnut, vanilla wafer and slate-like mineral scents.  Rich apple and pear fruit leads on the palate, followed by focused white peach tart, lemon curd, honey and hazelnut flavors, while emerging minerality and upfront fruit zest demonstrate that the wine has backbone. Lingering and generous, if still youthful, it is certain to be super within the next two years. 148 cases produced.

2021 Conscious Wines Chardonnay Alder Springs Vineyard, Mendocino
San Francisco Wine Panel 96+ Points

This is a gorgeous debut Chardonnay, sourced from a well known and highly regarded mountain vineyard. The nose opens with expressive, focused aromas of lemon curd, baked green apple and toasted hazelnut meringue which soar above a rich mineral backbone. Despite zest and firming minerality, the texture is polished and palate-coating, while the flavors are amply fruity and beautifully counterpointed by oaky spice. The finish is notably long and is layered by a generous medley of nectarine, baked green apple, lemon curd, hazelnut nougat and crushed rock impressions. If delicious at this stage, it is certain to gain in dimension over the next twelve to eighteen months. 83 cases produced.

2022 Blue Farm Chardonnay “Laceroni” Russian River Valley
San Francisco Wine Panel 96 Points

As rich in fruit and complex as in the past this Chardonnay, from the famed Zio Toni Vineyard, is already satisfying. The aromas are a creamy harmony of white peach, baked apple, preserved lemon, baking spice, nutmeg and toasted hazelnut scents. It proves as flavorful and palate-coating in the mouth as expected, yet also delivers textbook Russian River zest in counterpoint to its long-lingering flavors of apple, yellow and white peach, lemon, orange zest and hazelnut nougat. Delicious now, it is sure to grow ever more appealing if cellared for another twelve to eighteen months. 240 cases produced.

2021 Shibumi Knoll Chardonnay Buena Tierra Vineyard, Russian River Valley
San Francisco Wine Panel 97+ Points
This is a luxurious Chardonnay, if a pricey one. The nose is bright in fruit yet notably creamy in expression and offers aromas of fresh apple, lemon curd, white peach, quince and a hint of coconut, poised above a rich hazelnut meringue and mineral background. On the palate it proves as zesty as it is rich, with peach, pear, lemon curd and coconut at center stage and baked apple, quince. some tropical notes and hazelnut nougat in reserve. The finish is lingering, creamy and fruit-packed. Expect this already delicious wine to grow ever more opulent over the next few years. 450 cases produced.
